18th Sponsored Walk
On the 28th October the Calahonda Lions held their 18th Sponsored walk. This year the volunteers walked from the centre of Mijas Pueblo down through the pine woods to the finish line at the Hotel Tamisa. Here they were greeted with tapas and drinks generously provided by the Calahonda Language Centre and FISME Multiservices Calahonda. The weather was beautiful and the setting at the Hotel was relaxing for all the walkers and helpers.
The beneficiaries of the Sponsored Walk are the Cancer Support Group MABS, who are helping families with information on cancer.,diets, taking patients to hospital for treatments and general support through a difficult time. The many memebrs of MABS have themselves suffered from various forms of Cancer and are therefore able to understand the trauma that Cancer victims are going through.
The Calahonda Lions Club were delighted to be invited to help this evening of friendly football, the classic rivalry between England and Scotland, The charity we have allocated is the Village of Hope. This is a village in the Atlas Mountains to which a Valiant couple drive several times a year in a campervan packed to the gunnells with blankets, food, school equipment and bicycles for the children and people of this village. Last year 30 villagers (including infants) died from the cold there.

Miraflores Golf Club hosted the Ladies Golf Tournament on 13th June. The day was part of the Calahonda Lions Breast Cancer Awareness Week and specificallly the new charity Positively Pink, which is raising monies for a new Radio Therapy unit on the coast. The Calahonda Lions would like to thank all the sponsors and lady members of the Miraflores Club for their support and we look forward to putting this event as a regular event on their calendar !! Over 1,000 euros was raised on the day.
