Lions Roar for Crece

New President
On Saturday July 4th the Calahonda Lions marked the end of the Presidency of Anne-Marie Savastona with a delightful evening in the beautiful surroundings of the Vista del Mar restaurant at Miraflores. After a successful tenure she has handed over the chain of office to David Whitfield. Various social events have taken place including a Chinese meal, a curry evening and at the moment, plans are being made for a Quiz evening in November as well as a Christmas dinner.

Following the tsunami in Sri Lanka, much rebuilding has been taking place

and the Calahonda Lions have been helping, along with others to refurbish

houses and to try and help those affected establish some normality in their

lives. This is a photograph of one of the residents making good use of some

of the items provided with the help of The Lions.

Last Saturday, 7th August, saw a double celebration as the Calahonda Lions combined their change-over dinner with the 80th birthday of long–term member, John Goodyer. Friends and Lions’ members enjoyed a splendid evening in the beautiful surroundings of the Vista del Mar restaurant at Miraflores. John was presented with a voucher to enjoy at his favourite restaurant and incumbent President, David Whitfield, received a leather attaché case in recognition of his hard work during his first year in office.

Calahonda Lions Golf Day 2010

The Calahonda Lions Golf Day will be taking place at the Santa Maria Golf and Country Club on Sunday 27th June. It will take the form of an 18 hole Stableford Competition. The Tees of The Day will include two categories for men: 1 to 14 and 15 to 28 and one category for women: 1 to 36.

There will be prizes for nearest the pin on the 10th and 15th par threes. Other features of the day include and an auction and a raffle. This event is being organised by the Calahonda Lions in order to raise money for AVOI, a volunteer organisation dedicated to helping children with cancer and their families. Lions Roar for Crece

After months of careful planning, the sun shone on the righteous on Sunday 25th April, as the Calahonda Lions walked from Marbella to Banus and back in aid of Crece. Over twenty five walkers took part, including Paco the dog and his canine friends and so far nearly 1700 euros have been pledged. More news on the total raised soon!

Calahonda Lions Golf Day at Santa Maria Golf & Country Club 27th June 2010

For the 10th consecutive year Lions' President, David Whitfield will be organising our annual golf day at the Santa Maria Golf & Country Club. All profits from the event will be in aid of AVOI.

The Calahonda Lions Sponsored Walk will be taking place on Sunday April 25th. The event will begin and end at The Banana Tree on the paseo in Marbella, the participants having walked to Banus and back in aid of Crece.

The Calahonda Lions held a very successful Quiz Night on Friday 19th February)at the Casablanca Restaurant in Calahonda. The evening consisted of bingo, entertainment, a fabulous meal and the quiz itself. Over eighty people attended the evening which was not only a very enjoyable social event, but also raised funds to help the many charities supported by the Lions. The next Lions event will be a Sponsored Walk on Sunday 25th April from Marbella to Banus and back!
